Laser Base

Once you start using the laser cutter, you soon discover that's worthwhile buying additional bits for it. The Sculpfun laser is supplied with a standard A4 metal plate to use as a base plate when cutting through material, so that your work surface is protected. The plates that is supplied by default is significantly smaller than the working area and therefore will limit the size of the project. Also, there is a problem caused when using a metal plate, as the laser will reflect more when cutting through the material and produce a flash back effect that causes burns on the back of the material that is being cut.

It is therefore advisable to purchase a honeycomb base, Most of these are standard for all types of laser devices, so you don't need to buy the base from the same manufacturer and can shop around for the best price based on the build quality. Do you remember to check that you are purchasing a base of the correct size for the device you are using? As the honeycomb makes limited contact with the material the process of a flashback is significantly reduced but may still happen if there is excessive burn-through when cutting with the laser. It is therefore advisable that as part of your material test, you work out the appropriate power and the number of passes required to cut through the material without excessive overcutting.
